IKEA HÖUS

Comfort and inspiration through timeless design

HÖUS is a conceptual hospitality hostel that provides guests a chance to personalize their own living space and find inspiration for everyday life through IKEA furniture. This provides an opportunity for IKEA to expand its brand into a new market while also improving the lives of their audience

The inspiration behind HÖUS started with Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA. The first IKEA store was an overnight success and shoppers found themselves traveling long distances to find modern, smart furniture.

This was the beginning of the IKEA hostel, an after-shopping destination where guests are greeted by comfort and away from the busyness of the checkout.

Objective: Design a conceptual hospitality hostel for IKEA

Identity

The inspiration behind the logo was derived from a series of brandscapes that helped define what the hostel should be.

Modular, Personalized, Dynamic, Convenience, and Timeless.

The faces were derived from the “Ö” character, which resembled a face. This allowed for the opportunity to have emotions function as interaction between the hostel and customer.

Brandscapes

Expressions

After developing the final logo there was an opportunity to explore expressions in a cube form. The icons were designed with the intention of of expressing a guests satisfaction or action. This makes for a fun and simple way to receive feedback from guests during their stay.

Collaterals

When it came to what kind of products should be in a hostel, postcards were the first thing to come to mind. Other items included a matchbox, coasters, toiletries, and a lookbook.

Having guests collect branded items was a great way to have them remember their stay.

Having these items emanate a positive, welcoming, and inviting energy was important to the brand.

APP

Through the app, guests will be able to navigate through the new hostel experience while being inspired to create their ideal getaway. They will be able to book their stay at different locations, pick room sizes, and customize their furniture.

The ease of navigation allows guests to have peace of mind when it comes to knowing how easy it is to plan their trip.

The look book - a combination between IKEAS monthly prints and a brochure. This book would talk about the history behind the hostel while advertising the different selections of rooms and furniture a guest can expect to see.
