Frank

Twelve perspectives into one freely thinking mind and lost in love

What is FRANK? Does it stand for "Friendly Relations with Naughty Kinks"? or "Freely Running And Not Knowing"? How about "Fake Roses And Night Kisses"? Truth be told, FRANK is all of this and more. They twelve perspectives into one freely thinking, continuously pondering, wondrously lost in love, fool.

FRANK was constructed in a safe, loving, peanut-free environment of twelve students. With a pinch of craziness and an open prompt to any topic, chaos ensued.

Objective: Explore the subject love and the varying ranges of experience it can encompass from person to person.

Development

For the first 9 weeks, each student would have to write stories about the topic of love. Whether it was fiction or from personal experience, they must hold an essence to the unknown element. Sometimes love cannot be described with words, so therefore some drew and others noted, taking inspiration to write fiction upon fiction.

As this was the twelve student's first time collaborating, they all had a hand in art directing, editing, image making, and designing. It was a joyous occasion for all of them, as they were able to learn about the different techniques of other departments.

  • My role in this project was under the pen name Han Jan Tooth. As a collaborator, I took part in designing and color, typography, images, and formating of FRANK. My favorite part of my work was adding “love notes” that lived on the side of pages throughout the zine. While as Han Jan Tooth, I dedicated two stories to FRANK.

Poster

As all the contents of the zine was being made, the body of FRANK was also being formed. To clothe FRANK, the group decided to cover it in their design - adding their nicknames, piecing and stitching together human parts, and sending it all to the copy press to be finally made into FRANK's final form.

To promote FRANKS’s completion, the group paraded his image all across the school campus for all to see. This also served as a way to promote the rooftop reading of the zine.

Rooftop Reading

To celebrate the birth of FRANK, the group had a rooftop reading on top of their school, inviting all those who had seen FRANK's glorious form scattered on walls throughout the college campus.
